How virtual animation is changing the adult industry
Berlin,August 2019. Walking on the moon with Neil Armstrong and diving with whales in the Indian Ocean the next moment: This has long been possible thanks to Virtual Reality. Whether in film, education or the construction industry – many areas of life make use of the possibilities of immersion, i.e. of diving into a virtual world. The erotic industry also uses this technological effect. Where passive consumption of VR porn has long been the trend, a team of developers from Berlin is designing new possibilities for adult entertainment with the so-called vrXcity. „In our virtual erotic world, users interact with true-to-life, completely animated and naturally moving avatars of real erotic stars. Interested people experience individual adventures on a new level and almost all sexual desires are fulfilled“, explains Tobias Platte, managing director of me.mento 3D interactive GmbH in Berlin.
Better than reality?
With vrXcity, an animated adult playground is being created which, thanks to technical finesse, is able to respond specifically to the wishes of the users. „Through the unique combination of a 3D scan of real erotic stars, created as a lifelike 3D figure with natural movements of a real porn actress, both the erotic as well as the technical sector is lifted to a new level“, the expert emphasizes. In order to depict the virtual characters as true-to-life as possible, the Berlin experts use a 3D full-body scanner that uses 170 cameras to capture every inch of the performers. Then a so-called photogrammetry software assembles the data set obtained to form a three-dimensional figure. In the 3D modelling department, graphic artists depict the smallest irregularities such as scars, laughter lines and even birthmarks on the skin, just as they are found on the real erotic star: a perfect image from head to toe.
In a further step, the 3D figure enters the so-called rigging department. Here experts work on flowing and lifelike movements. For this purpose, the figure is given various anchor points and an individual skeleton with which, for example, the arms can be bent at the elbow and the head can be placed in the neck. „In addition to the movement of individual limbs, several digitized images of different facial expressions enable us to display the individual facial expressions of each avatar,“ explains Tobias Platte. To achieve a coherent overall image of the avatar, the developers place previously recorded motion capture data on the 3D skeleton, combining individual facial features with lifelike motion animations. „In addition to the usual programs such as RealityCapture, Houdini, Mari and Photoshop, we also use tools we have developed ourselves to some extent for unique character generation,“ the expert concludes. After several test runs, the vrXcity avatar is available to its users for many erotic adventures.
